SALMON STREET BRIDGE

Picture

Connecting Salmon Street across the Willamette River, this non-vehicular bridge enables walkers, bikers and skaters to expand their range by crossing the river safely, pleasantly and conveniently. The bridge offers a contemporary form and aesthetic to complement the larger historical context of Portland bridges through intertwining roadways and a slender structure. The bridge is divided into a local path and an express path in order to accommodate a variety of uses as well as allow each individual a unique and enjoyable experience of the river.  Nestled in a cove created by the natural curving of the local path, the program area establishes a destination on the bridge and a focal point for activity. Overall, the bridge preserves the atmosphere of the West Bank, while enhancing one’s experience of the river and the East bank.
